Being Ghosted by a Client. It’s probably happened to most freelancers. Heck, it’s happened to regular employees too. Point is, it sucks! The reality is, it will happen.
I was recently ghosted by a client. I don’t want to get into specifics but when I realized it, I was hurt. Not angry, but truly hurt. We had a great working relationship. I looked forward to working with him more. The problem was that each time I tried to check in and got nothing. No reply.
At first, I was concerned so I sent a quick note to see if all was okay. Still nothing. After a couple more monthly tries I realized I had been ghosted by my client. So what do you do when this happens?
That’s an easy question to answer, believe it or not. If you’re ghosted by a client you just move on.
Yup, start looking for new clients or people to collaborate with. What if you run a blog? Find other bloggers to connect with. Yeah, it hurts and you may feel angry for a while but life will go on. It’s kind of like having a bad relationship. You just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and keep trucking. Above all, keep going!
You’re wondering how often this happens. It happens a fair amount. That is why having more than one client or stream of income is important. There’s an old phrase that goes “don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” The same holds true with blogging and freelancing. Have multiple income options open. This will make it easier when a client does ghost you.
Finally, what’s the lesson here? Simple. Clients will sometimes ghost you. It happens.
